I've been doing lamp working for a bit since the spring of 2004. I enjoy the newly discovered patience I've had to learn through-out the process!
Lamp working is an ancient art that originated in Italy. Glass is melted to a molten stage and wound around a small metal rod that has a protective clay-like coating on it that keeps the glass from permanently adhering to the rod. The bead is smoothed, decorated, embellished and then allowed to slowly cool (anneal) in a kiln.
